Step 1: Surface Preparation

Epoxy garage flooring begins with thorough surface preparation, ensuring a strong and long-lasting bond.  The process to achieving a beautiful and durable epoxy garage floor commences with a fundamental process: surface preparation. This essential step is akin to laying a solid foundation before constructing a building. It is the foundation upon which the entire epoxy coating relies for adhesion, strength and longevity.

Clean and Repair

  1. Cleaning: The first step is to clean the garage floor thoroughly, removing any dirt, dust, or debris. This ensures that the epoxy adheres properly to the concrete surface.
  2. Repair: Inspect the floor for cracks, holes, or imperfections. These must be repaired to create a smooth base. Epoxy grout is used to fill gaps, while larger repairs may require patching with epoxy mortar.

Profile the Surface

  1. Mechanical Profiling: To further enhance the bond, we employ specialized equipment known as diamond grinding machines. These machines mechanically profile the concrete by removing a thin layer. This profiling creates a porous surface that maximizes the epoxy’s grip.  This method is superior to alternatives like acid etching.
  2. Crack Repair: Any existing cracks in the concrete are meticulously repaired during this stage, ensuring a seamless and durable finish.  Our experts carefully inspect the floor for cracks, holes, or imperfections. Even the smallest flaws are addressed during this stage. Cracks are filled with specialized epoxy paste, providing a smooth and level base for the epoxy coating. For larger repairs or areas with substantial damage, our team employs epoxy mortar to patch and restore the concrete, ensuring a flawless finish.

Step 2: Base Coat Application

With the surface properly prepared, it’s time to apply the base coat, setting the foundation for your epoxy garage floor.

Primer Epoxy

  1. Primer Application: A layer of primer epoxy is evenly applied to the floor. This initial coat enhances adhesion and helps seal any pores in the concrete.
  2. Optional Moisture Barrier: In cases where moisture levels are high, a moisture vapor barrier coat may be recommended before the primer. This step prevents moisture-related issues.

Flake Floors (Optional)

  1. Flake Broadcast: For a decorative touch, colorful flakes or chips are scattered into the wet epoxy during the base coat application. This adds texture and design to your garage floor.

Step 3: Top Coat and Finish

In the final step of the epoxy garage flooring process, we apply a polyaspartic top coat, which serves as the ultimate finish for your garage floor. This clear and protective layer offers a glossy appearance that enhances the overall aesthetics of your space, providing a sleek and inviting atmosphere. Beyond its visual appeal, the polyaspartic top coat boasts exceptional durability, making your floor highly resistant to abrasions, impacts, and daily wear and tear. It also exhibits excellent resistance to chemicals, including oil, gasoline, and household cleaners, ensuring that accidental spills won’t tarnish your garage floor’s pristine look. Additionally, this UV-stable top coat maintains its clarity and shine even with prolonged exposure to sunlight.

Surface Preparation

  1. Flake Removal and Smoothing: Excess flakes are collected and the floor is smoothed to create a level surface.
  2. Final Clean: A thorough vacuuming of the entire floor removes any dust, ensuring a pristine finish.

Clear Top Coat

  1. Polyaspartic Clear Top Coat: The last layer is a Polyaspartic clear top coat. This UV-stable, abrasion-resistant coat enhances durability and provides a glossy finish.

Fast Completion

  1. Quick Process: Most average-sized 2-3 car garage installations can be completed in just 2 days, minimizing disruption and maximizing efficiency.
